DIS Copenhagen

In the fall of 2019, I studied abroad in Copenhagen, Denmark, where I was able to expand upon my knowledge in both the psychology and environmental studies disciplines. Through hands-on coursework, academic travel, and cultural immersion, I gained a sense of independence and a more nuanced perspective of my place in the world.

Sustainability and The Internet Final Paper

I compiled a literature review for my Cyberpsychology course analyzing the relationship between technology, the Internet and sustainability. Looking at three technological phenomena—planned obsolescence, e-waste, and e-commerce—and integrating them with sustainability patterns and data gave me experience in drawing connections between subjects that may seem very distant at first glance. I also was able to hone my skills in researching and communicating the results of scientific studies in understandable ways.

Cyberpsychology Reaction Paper Cover

My Cyberpsychology course required that we write reflective papers all semester about our experiences with various types of technology. Based on my love of collaging, I created a cover for this collection of “diary entries.” I was excited to use my creative skills, and grateful for the opportunity to design and collage for an academic assignment. This project allowed me to integrate topics from my course into a piece of art.

Analysis of Greenspace in Copenhagen Poster

In my Geographic Information Systems course, I created a conference-style poster that detailed my analysis of greenspace in Copenhagen, as well as my recommendations for the city. This project required that I use the techniques I learned on the ArcGIS platform, including classifying cases, raster and vector analysis, and creating a map as an output. The course and this project really challenged me, but I am grateful for the experience and knowledge I gained in GIS.

Sustainability and Time Perception Documentary

For my final project in my Environmental Impact of Humans course, I used concepts that we had discussed throughout the semester to create a short documentary on how different perspectives of time can influence the way individuals view the climate movement. I compiled footage, wrote a script based on research that I conducted, and edited the film with music and text to create a compelling and informative video. My interest in video production and storytelling spurred me to challenge myself with this project, and I hope to create more like it in the future.
